How To Write A College Admission Essay

 

Being admitted to the college or university of your choice can be a challenge.  As colleges are faced with more and more applicants with a restricted number of openings, you may be up against stiff competition.  Being able to write a successful admission essay may be what makes the difference.  With that in mind, here is a sample college admission essay.

By offering this sample college admission essay, we hope to point you in the right direction.  Keep in mind that it is best not to copy it word-for-word, but rather use it as a guide.  As you write your own admission essay, be sure to write a clear, concise essay that is personal and grabs the reader’s interest.  They want to know about you, so make sure that when they’re done reading your essay, they will feel like they have met you—and that they want to meet you again real soon!

Searching for and selecting a college that is able to fulfill my needs has been a challenging but worthwhile task.  [College Name] ultimately surfaced as the best option for me.  Likewise, I feel that I am an excellent match for your institution.  I have done intensive research, including an on-site visit and reading informational materials (e.g., web site, pamphlets).  My future career aspiration is to become [career option].  I am confident that [College Name] offers what I seek to gain during my transition from childhood into adulthood.  In response, I will make my contribution to upholding the standards and values of your institution through participation in extracurricular activities offered through the university and demonstrating overall leadership qualities.

[Paragraph summarizing what college offers that corresponds to career option.  Briefly describe what classes they offer that you hope to benefit from and what you hope to take away from the learning experience.]

[Paragraph summarizing personal aspirations and extracurricular interests.  This is your chance to tell them a little about yourself on a personal level and make them feel like they have met you in some way.]

[Paragraph summarizing past accomplishments which demonstrate what you can offer in upholding the standards and values of the college.  Here is where you want to underscore the fact that you understand the college’s accomplishments and objectives to maintain their level of academic and overall excellence.]

The reason I have chosen to submit an early application to [college name] is because I am very confident in my decision that [college name] is a great fit.  Likewise, I strongly feel that I will be an asset to the college through academic, social, and extra-curricular excellence.  By doing such, I hope to continue the pride and tradition of this long-established institution.
